Warrior - Paleo Diet Update
Well, it’s been a little more than a week since I’ve been on my modified warrior diet. It has going pretty well with the exception that I did have a relapse and ate some french fries at restaurant I was at over the weekend. But I yelled at myself mentally and made for certain I would never go back down that path ever again. And when I say path, I mean that this isn’t a diet, but now a way of living for me.
Since last week, I’ve had two sessions of weight training, two sessions of running 3 miles, and 2 sessions of tennis. The weight training wasn’t very intense, but I will be picking up the intensity as my consistency picks up.
The first week, I was making fruit smoothies with whey protein and glutamine added in. The fruit I used were strawberries and blueberries. You can view my instructions for a killer smoothie here. For lunch, I was making small salads with nothing but vegetables. For dressing I used olive oil and vinaigrette. I also made a small side of fruit from the salad bar as well. For dinner, I tried to eat mostly protein. Either egg whites, or chicken breast. I also had a glass of all natural coconut juice with my meal.
During the week, I did find that eating plenty of fruit at lunch killed my obsessive cravings I had during the day at work for sugar. I used to have cravings of eating a bag of reeces pieces during the day at work so I could get my “fix”. But eating fruit has helped me resist that. And believe me, I was never a big fan of fruit at all. I chose sugar over fruit any day back when I was younger. But I gave my theory a try, and it has helped me resist those obsessive cravings.
On the downside, after about a week I started to feel the same way as if I was on a low-carb diet. I started to feel a tad weak, and kind of felt inadequate. I wasn’t starving at all and didn’t feel deprived, but I just felt as if I needed something more. So after reading article after article on getting that “six pack of abs”, all the experts made a point to make sure to include some complex carbs in the form of either brown rice, whole grains, oats, or sweet potatoes. None of that refined crap. So for a few meals, I included some all natural rye bread with flax seed, and for a couple of meals I had sushi rolls that consisted of brown rice. This seemed to do the trick of making me not feel inadequate. And yet I didn’t feel bloated and fat either after eating moderate servings of slow digesting carbs.
So after a week and a half, my waistline is a little tighter and my pants fit a tad better. I need to step up the intensity and consistency with my weight training. I noticed in the mirror at the store when I was trying on clothes, that I was on my way to the skinny un-toned look. I don’t want that to happen either. I want to have that v-shape to my back and some decent toned quad muscles on my thighs. So this is going to require some more effort in the exercise department to speed things up.
I’ll be writing more articles on how I eat during the day and how I choose what I choose. I have made it a way of life to eliminate refined sugars, refined foods, and foods with nasty preservatives. But I do have to admit, one thing I do allow myself is diet coke. I’m aware that it has a few chemicals that probably aren’t the best thing for me, but it provides me with a shot of caffeine that I really don’t think is harmful. And it also has the fewest ingredients out of all the other diet drinks. My system seems to feel ok when I drink it, but I am trying to cut it to a minimum. So stay tuned as I make my way to a state of well being and a six pack of abs. The days of sugar and refined crap is over. Stop putting money into these corrupt greedy food manufacturers that want you to eat their unnatural crap so they can make a dollar. Do you think the elites that own these corporations sit in their mansions in the Hamptons and eat their refined junk that they manufacture? Hell no, they’re eating all natural gourmet foods. Those people are keeping you from your goal. Let them take their high fructose corn syrup crap to another planet and sell it. Those people regard you as nothing more than an animal and can careless for you to eat that junk. Join me on the path to real fitness, and real living and let the rest of the poor fat slobs around you continue to eat sugary foods and watch Oprah while you will be beginning a new better second life.
