Warrior Diet

I began a “diet” today.  I’m going to see how I feel after a few days, or a week of doing it.  Of course I’ll be combining some weightlifting and aerobic activity as well.   But what I decided to do was combine the Paleolithic diet with the Warrior diet.

My theory that I am trying out is to eat like a hunter.   I want to eat the way humans ate 50000 years ago.   I think this is the diet that our bodies were designed to handle.   Anyhow, my theory is, if I were a caveman, then I’d probably spend most of my days hunting.  Therefore, while I am hunting, I’d probably snack on fruits, nuts, and some vegetables.   In the evening, after I bring my fresh kill home, I’d eat plenty of game meat by the fire to get my fill of protein.

So basically, today, I started my morning with some organic coconut juice, a vitamin C packet, ice, 2 scoops of Any Whey Protein, and 5 grams of Glutamine all blended to make a smoothie.   At lunch, I made myself a plate of fresh fruit which consisted of oranges, blueberries, pineapple, and some strawberries.  I also bought some Almonds to eat with the fruit as well.  At this point, I’m starting to feel like a hunter.   I was kind of starting to like it because the fruit and nuts actually satisfied me and tasted good.  I didn’t have the urge to go get high on refined sugar.

For dinner, after running several miles, I ate some chicken breast with vegetables along with a little cheese.   For the most part, my diet today was all natural.  I supplemented myself with whey protein in the morning because I don’t think I am able to cram myself with enough meat or chicken in the evenings to get a sufficient amount of protein.

I just decided to try this for the heck of it and just see.  I have heard this is what Sumo wrestlers do to get fat.   They starve all day, and then chow down in the evening.  However, they do eat very high complex carbs such as white rice.   Something I definitely try and stay away from.   So I am going with the idea of burning fat during the day, and then build muscle at night.   I think maybe eating crap during the day inhibits the body’s ability to burn fat, and also blocks the body’s protein absorption as well.

So we’ll see.  The only way I can keep myself satisfied with undereating during the day is to keep myself busy with other stuff at work.  But that is becoming difficult.  Although, after the fruit and nuts, I didn’t find myself hungry the rest of the day anyways.  Maybe we get hungry and crave sugar because our body is just simply begging for the most simple basic foods to eat that we ate 50000 years ago.  And by throwing refined carbs and other crap into our system to fill our tummies, it actually doesn’t give our body what it is really asking for.   Next time you have a craving for a soft baked chocolate chip cookie or some chocolate or anything high in refined sugar, go eat some fresh fruit and some almonds and then see how ya feel afterwards.
