Tip of the Day
What do you want others to remember you for after you die? Why do I ask this question? Isn’t it amazing how a lot of people live their lives chasing the almighty dollar because they want to be known by others as someone who lives in a huge upscale house, wears the best clothes, and drives high-end automobiles. I know a lot of people like this. The size of their house and the size of their bank account is all they live for so others can envy them. However, when these very same people die, do you think they would put “Remembered for his/her large house and nice car” on their tombstone? Of course not. He or she would probably put “Remembered for his/her kindness and affection and good humor”.
So the question is, why is it that people want to be known or remembered for one thing while they are alive, but want to be remembered for something else when they are dead? Wouldn’t it be more important to be known for the same thing that you would put on your tombstone while you are still alive? The main point is to determine what you would want put on your tombstone after you have passed, and then live like that today.
While we are all striving for self improvement in our careers, relationships, and finances, we ultimately know that none of it will really matter in the end. In the end, what will matter is how you spent your time here on earth and what you did to make the world better. Everyone has an opportunity to do their small part to help out in the world. Otherwise you would have truly wasted your life and there would have been no point of you being here. If you can do something, such as volunteer some of your spare time to help out in a cause such as helping with a food drive, or using a skill you have for charitable work free of charge, then you have just made a purpose for you to be here on earth. Because what you did, no matter how little, never could have been done without you being here on earth. You just made your life worthwhile. And you will be glad for that when you are on your deathbed. I think when it comes time for each of us to meet our maker, He isn’t going to ask you, “How come you didn’t make more money, or how come your house was so small”. No, He will ask you, “What did you do with the opportunity I gave you live on earth to make it worthwhile?”. Let’s hope you have something worthwhile to tell Him.
