The Secret
So, are you a believer in the “Secret”? I’m a very opened minded person and will consider anything new suggested to me, but I have yet to be convinced that there is anything revolutionary about the concepts introduced by “The Secret”.
Believe me, there are lots of people who think about money all the time and absolutely believe that they are going to come into it, but it never happens. Believing and thinking about money isn’t going to bring it to you. Having a positive attitude that you can make money might aid you in developing skills and habits that are geared towards earning cash. But it won’t come to you magically. And no, there is no secret that the “wealthy elite” know about. People of money and royalty receive their wealth due to their family’s historical background that goes back centuries. There isn’t any “secret” they carry around. In fact, the only secret they might be carrying is the knowledge that their ancestors generated their wealth through immoral and unethical means and they benefit from it today. There are quite a few wealthy elites around today whose prominent family originally earned their wealth through the opium drug trade. And these are names that most of you would definitely recognize. This same money was then used to start and finance corporations and other business operations, which then in turn built financial empires. So there ya go.
The only concept that “the secret” really explores is the power of positive thinking. Everyone knows that positive thoughts will get you further than negative thoughts. And the more positive you are about something and the more you believe you can do something, then the better your chances are that you will succeed. If you are a sales person, and you absolutely believe that you will make lots of sales and refuse to believe any different, I’d venture to say you’d probably end up more successful than if you developed the attitude that you are horrible at sales and aren’t even going to bother to try. So there is nothing magical going on here. Your thoughts will influence your actions which in turn will guide you down different paths increasing your chance for success.
In short, I could remake the entire “secret” concept, and just simply tell people in two words to “think positive”. That’s it. Session over with. In fact, a lot of successful people will tell you not to think about money. But rather just concentrate on doing what you love and the money will come on its own. But the reality is that 90% of people that are wealthy have money because it was handed to them. Very few people actually ever truly go from rags to riches completely on their own without having someone else open doors for them for various reasons that I won’t get into. So don’t get discouraged with yourself if you aren’t successful at something right away. The real ”secret” is that there isn’t any secret. If you want to make anything of yourself you are just going to have to take action. Living a pipe dream and sitting around meditating about cash isn’t going to do anything but make you another candidate for prozac.

Well put. I watched “The Secret” a couple of times before I realized that it was just a film version of Napoleon Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich.”
You are so right: nothing will get better by sitting around and think about it.
