War in Iraq

Ok, I read an article today about former Fed chair Greenspan’s comment about the war in Iraq is for oil.  From what I am hearing, his comments were taken out of context.   Besides that, I don’t think most people have an understanding about what is really going on and why we are over there.  So I’ll write a quick post to give a simple explanation.

It all goes back to my Petrodollars post I had written about sometime back.  To simply put it, all the oil in the Middle East is traded in Dollars.  The oil producing countries in the Middle East will only accept Dollars for their oil.  So, in order for all the other numerous countries around the world to buy oil, they have to stock up on Dollars.  To stock up on Dollars, they have to establish trade with the U.S. and sell things to us for Dollars.  So the Dollars get spent buying oil, and then the Middle East countries send those Dollars back to the banks in the United States.  This is how the Dollars are recycled.  These Dollars are also invested into securities and realestate in the United States as well.  That is why the Saudis own so much crap over there.

So here’s the threat.  If the Middle Eastern nations decided to start trading oil for Euros, it would cause the other countries around the world to dump our Dollars from their reserves.  Hence, killingour economy.   Remember gas prices going from $1.29 to $1.64 overnight in 2000 right before Clinton left office.  This was because Saddam in Iraq decided to only accept Euros for his oil and to have all of his “food for oil” funds converted to Euros.  So there ya go.  We’re over there to keep our currency numero uno.

With that being said, I have my own opinions about how 9/11 might have been started.  But I’ll keep those to myself since I do not have any actual proof or facts of anything.  A lot of us can draw our own conclusions, and there are probably a lot of different conclusions a lot of us would come up with.  However, I’m sure the reason 9/11 happened is probably a lot more complicated than what it appears.   When it comes down to it, going over to Iraq for WMD’s when we should be on the warpath to the root cause of 9/11, seems strange to me.  It would be like me getting food poisoning at McDonalds because a worker sabotaged my hamburger, but I go and sue Burger King instead because I think they might possibly have unsafe methods of handling food.  Meanwhile, the worker that poisoned my food is still walking around scott- free.  Hmm.
