Living Within Your Means

I don’t blame Gisele Bundchen, the supermodel, for demanding she only be paid in anything but American dollars. But then again, I don’t think she even lives in America, and it would be a no-brainer to get paid in Euros. So I don’t know what the point of the news was in announcing that. Probably just an excuse by the mainstream media to report anything bad about the dollar.

Gisele had also commented that she thinks Americans are too wasteful and this is part of what is causing the dollar to slide. I would have to agree with that. I don’t know what it is with people these days, but as I was driving home from work today I was still seeing almost more trucks and SUV’s on the road than cars. I am so sick of the types of people that drives these vehicles. Believe me, I am no global warming nut, and I am all for capitalism, but sometimes a person should just use ethics in their decisions as how they live even if they can easily afford to do otherwise. Only about 99.9% of people on the roads driving large trucks and SUV’s actually need them. They don’t haul anything, they don’t pull anything, and they don’t live out in the country where they would need a four-wheel drive. They just drive them because they think their SUV makes them look good and gives them status. And the people that drive these vehicles are all the same. They always tail-gate you and they always seem to be on their cell phones. It’s people like this that have been ruining our country. It’s these same people that use 10 times the amount of gas that the rest of us do and it’s these same people that have caused the consumer credit and mortgage crisis in this country. They live beyond their means.

So what is the point of this article and how does it tie into self enhancement? The point I’m trying to get across is to simply live within your means if you want to make life easier for yourself and others. And even if you can afford to live beyond the average person’s lifestyle, try to use some ethics or moderation in what you decide to do. It is doing your part to help reduce waste in this country. I know people that are in debt up to their ears in loans and credit cards, but yet they still drive these gas guzzling Yukons and live in houses a little larger or more expensive than what they really need. These people cannot skip a beat, or they will lose everything. But they live this way because of how self centered they are. These were the types of people that would do whatever it took back in highschool to be seen as “cool”. If it meant throwing their morals in the toilet and smoking pot or snorting coke to be in the “cool” group, they did it. It’s these same people today that have caused the credit and mortgage crisis. They want to be “cool” in the adult world and would absolutely die if they were seen any other way. So they get mortgages they cannot afford and throw their cash away on Yukons.

The most important thing you can do in your life is to carry the minimum amount of debt you possibly can. The only debt you should have is your mortgage, your car, and maybe student loans if you are unfortunate to still be paying on those. That’s it. You should only buy material goods only if you can pay cash for them. It is as simple as that. When it comes to shopping for clothes, go to places such as Marshalls. You don’t have to always go and pay the marked up retail prices at places such as the mall and other rip-off outlet stores. Also, when you get gas, you don’t always have to fill your tank up. I only fill my tank 3/4 every time I get gas. Some say this makes no sense as I will just be making more trips to the gas station, but I still feel that by paying a lower amount at the pump on any given day, would make a difference if everyone did it rather than fill their tanks to the top. The thing is, reducing waste and reducing your debt not only enhances your life, but enhances America as well. If everyone in America lived this way, the dollar would be strong once again and our economy would be booming because international investors would find this country a very attractive place to pump their money into. That’s how it works.
