Do you like giving away almost half of your paycheck to the government in the form of taxes? You probably would love to just stop paying taxes and keep all of your paycheck. So who could we ask about this? What does Jesus have to say about taxes? Yes, there were taxes back during the time of Jesus. There was an economy of Rome. The economy was the back bone of the Roman Empire just the same as the economy is the backbone of any country today. People think of the time during which Jesus lived as almost the stone age. The truth of the matter is, all they were really lacking back then was the technology we have today. A lot of people during that time understood money and economics better than most people do today.
Here is what Jesus has to say about taxes:
” Then the Pharisees went off and plotted how they might entrap him in speech. They sent their disciples to him, with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are a truthful man and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. And you are not concerned with anyone’s opinion, for you do not regard a person’s status. Tell us, then, what is your opinion: Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not? Knowing their malice, Jesus said, “Why are you testing me you hypocrites? Show me the coin that pays the census tax.” Then they handed him the Roman coin. He said to them, “Whose is this and whose inscription?” They replied, “Caesar’s”. At that he said to them, “Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.” When they heard this they were amazed, and leaving him they went away. ”
What did Jesus mean by what he said? First of all, the point is, if you are going to enter into a contract of using the money that is produced by the federal reserve, then it is only right to repay the IRS what belongs to the IRS. With that being said, since you have been given life and your body belongs to God, then repay to God what belongs to God. Your life is God’s money. The Fed produces money out of thin air, and God produces life out of thin air. You should give your life to God just like you give your money to the IRS.
